"I have been bound by mundane duties for years. Not only do I find no fun in my surroundings, but I'm also becoming a rather boring person. If I must talk about something interesting, then it'd be meeting space travelers like yourself."
Personality.
Calm and competent, Jing Yuan has no trouble adapting to new situations. He is dauntless, sharp-minded, and agreeable to the people around him. But the General of the Luofu is way more scrupulous than his cordial exterior shows.
Jing Yuan is a dutiful figure of authority, making him one of the most efficient generals despite his reputation for indolence. He is gentle and hardly loses his composure, handling most situations with grace. Heโs also a tolerant mentor, particularly around younger people.
Known to be fair & wise, Jing Yuan still has a bit of a mean streak for those who threaten the safety of the Luofu. His astute maneuvers and stalwart approach have earned him great respect amongst his peers. And despite of any gossip he is still highly esteemed by his soldiers, for he always puts their safety first even at the risk of his own.
Lethargic and apathetic towards certain tasks in his daily routine, Jing Yuan can appear unconcerned even while under pressure. Still, his cunning is known to bring headaches to many. He is secretive even around people heโs known for years, but never with ill intentions. The General simply has a great tendency to shoulder too many burdens on his own at times, a habit easily read in his silence. This accumulated stress often translates into a need for sleep and relaxation, often making him prone to fall asleep during long conversations or tedious tasks.
He can be too docile or lenient towards those dear to him, at times bending over unreasonable demands against his best judgment. This makes him seem nonchalant in the eyes of some, and he might as well be. After all, there's no better leisure than indulging โif only a little, in something as fleeting as the present moment.
"My past enemies are either dead or captured, and my past friends are scattered to the winds. Now that I think about it, I am indeed an old man..."
Background.
content warnings: death, war, attempted murder, fantasy violence, hsr lore.
The story of the Xianzhou begins seven millennia ago with the departure of nine ships from their home planet. After successfully neutralising a Wingweaver invasion, came the unification of the Primeval Imperium. But its sovereign became infatuated with the idea of immortality. And so, with new knowledge and technology acquired from the enemy legion, the nine ships sailed in search of the Sanctus Medicus, the Aeon Yaoshi, for the secrets of everlasting life.
But with the journey came a price. War and plague flocked the ships and with the sowing of the Ambrosial Arbor in the Luofu, what came as a blessing for the people of the Xianzhou turned into a curse. However, when salvation was implausible, the birth of a hero changed the fleetโs course entirely. The Reignbow Arbiter, Lan, ascended to aeonhood and eradicated the wicked. With its Skybow, THEY put an end to the sprouts of the Abundance.
Only six ships survived from a voyage that carried the lone space fleet across countless galaxies, hardship and other wonders. Order was restored, and those ships formed the Xianzhou Alliance of today. An Arbiter-General leads each flagship station, and a Marshall presides over. They are warriors of great might and carry out the creed of The Hunt. Jing Yuan, the General of the Xianzhou Luofu, took the mantle after General Teng Xiao, inherited the Lighting Lord Spirit, and became the commander of the Cloud Knights.
After the Sedition of Imbibitor Lunae, an era of peace reigned over the Luofu, and the origins of the General were replaced by stories weaved amongst the citizens. Some say his family rejected the idea of their son not following the tradition of working for the Realm-Keeping Commission. But one fact Jing Yuan will never deny is having taken up the sword out of his own free will. What started as an attempt to flee a life of boredom ended up with Jing Yuan joining the Cloud Knights at a young age.
Having trained under the last Sword Champion of the Xianzhou and being a former member of the High Cloud Quintet, General Jing Yuanโs mastery goes unquestioned. But his talents are often overshadowed by the tragedy that followed said group of heroes after Shuhuโs Upheaval. The tales and other fiction surrounding the events are many, but the truth regarding the outcome remains concealed under the guardianship of the Ten Lords Commission. Centuries of harmony in the Luofu under Jing Yuanโs command, however, have completely blurred the matter from the citizensโ minds.
At least until a new crisis and the revival of the Ambrosial Arbor took place.
Lord Ravager Phantylia, a heliobus and an emanator of Destruction infiltrated the Luofu in disguise. Amidst the centuries-lasting peace, the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus, a faction still loyal to the Aeon Yaoshi, took up the opportunity. They assisted Phantylia in planting a Stellaron (the Cancer of All Worlds) at the root of the arbour, causing a distortion that sowed chaos in various lifeforms, including the citizens of the Xianzhou.
To prevent disaster from spreading, General Jing Yuan, allied with the Astral Express Crew, ensued in the battle against Phantylia. Forming a link with the enhanced heliobus entity, Jing Yuan opened a path for the impenetrable soma created by the arbour to be damaged. This allowed Dan Heng to finally destroy it, even at the cost of the General's wellbeing.
Peace seemed to return to the Luofu. However, with the defeat of the emanator of Destruction and the return of the former High Elder of the Vidyadhara to the Luofu, true harmony had yet to settle. General Jing Yuan had to intervene a second time to stop the preceptors from assassinating the Healer Lady, Bailu, in a new attempt to reinstall their former prestige. He assisted the Trailblazer and Dan Heng in battle and quickly returned to resume his recovery.
Jing Yuan was not expecting the return of his master shortly after. As the former leader of the High Cloud Quintet, Jingliuโs intent to gather the remaining members and settle past grudges was evident with her surrender to the Cloud Knights. The reliving of the past in Scalegorge Waterscape didnโt prevent Jing Yuan from finally apprehending the โmerchantโ responsible for the infiltration of the Stellaron into the Luofu, and even less delivering his own master along to the Seer Strategist of the Yuque.
Nowadays, the hostility created after the crisis has yet to vanish, but the citizens of the Luofu can forgo past wounds over a new beginning, in honour of all the sacrifices involved. With the participation of the Astral Express in restoring peace, General Jing Yuan granted them free passage in and out of the Luofu, summed with a Jade Abacus of Allying Oath. The gifted device was more than just a farewell present, but a vow of the Cloud Knights to come to the Express Crewโs aid, no matter how astronomical the distance between them.
